Emma & Toni have been friends of The Lausanne Guide for quite some time. We first met them when the street food scene made its debut in Lausanne and their food tent camped out on Riponne square a few days a week. Their menu caught our eye for several reasons–one being the provocative innovative names for some of their dishes (did someone say “Skinny Bitch”?)–but mostly because their plates were some of the most creative combinations of flavors we had ever seen or tasted. Fast forward several years, and SK (Street Kitchen) has grown into a Lausanne favorite; their mouth-watering recipes have earned them the spot at La Grenette, where they serve a different lunch & dinner during the week, and brunch on the weekends.
If you’ve ever met Emma or Toni, you’ll know why their food tastes as good as it does. They’re laid back, but quickly become perfectionists when it comes to their food. They also like to take risks. Emma, the brainchild behind SK’s recipes, is constantly playing around with flavor combinations and new methods of cooking, and SK’s newest summer menu at La Grenette reflects this adventurous spirit–fish tacos with watermelon salsa, goat cheese pureed with mint topped with a wild cherry confit, sweet potato hummus with feta and pumpkin seeds, or pork belly brochettes with a home-made spicy habanero salsa (we could continue but our stomachs are grumbling just thinking about that epic meal).
Not only does SK share wonderful creations at La Grenette, but they have a full-catering service as well as a café in Gland (which will re-open in September). We were able to witness their catering first-hand when we joined forces last autumn to bring Thanksgiving to Lausanne. Emma and her team conceptualized the menu and brought it to life in a way that reflected the convivial spirit found in the American holiday (and she’s from South Africa!)–her eye for detail and relentless passion for what she does is easily identified in every interaction, every event, and every dish.
SK has grown from a passion project into a flourishing small business that can provide innovative & flavorful food for any occasion with an extra personal touch–the SK team has found themselves cooking for weddings, corporate events, private dinners, supper clubs, holiday parties, as well as doing business lunch deliveries. They are always searching for ways to make something more interesting, adding in themes or extra-special touches (most recently a Great Gatsby themed menu for a private client).
If you’d like to experience SK for yourself, head over to La Grenette and try out their newest summer menu. Order a planchette of dips & pita bread to split with your friends, or one of their new generously portioned tacos (pulled pork, steak, fish, or chicken)–we’d recommend pairing the tacos with the super hoppy Double IPA, brewed by La Nebuleuse exclusively for La Grenette. La Grenette Hours:
SK will at La Grenette this summer season, Tuesday-Saturday during lunchtime (12h-14h) and dinnertime (18h-22h), brunch on Saturday (11h-14h30) and dinner on Saturday night too (18h30).
