Those snow capped mountains across the Lake have been beckoning us, and for weeks we have been dreaming of getting away for a few days to a winter wonderland above the clouds for a little skiing (and especially après-skiing), fondue eating and hot chocolate sipping. As we research holiday spots on Airbnb, we thought we’d share a few of our favorites with you!

In case you’re unfamiliar with Airbnb, it’s a website that allows individuals to rent out their personal homes and apartments to travelers. Listings range from a couch in a shared studio (not so much our style…) to glamorous penthouses overlooking NYC’s Central Park. Naturally, all price points are available and a savvy Airbnb user can find fantastic holiday spots well under the cost of a hotel equivalent.

We love Airbnb. And we travel almost exclusively through the site these days. It’s difficult to recommend it without caveats, simply because everyone’s experience and every listing can be different. But in case you’ve not yet given it a try, we think you might be missing out… And if you decide to sign up and book a stay in an Airbnb, use this link and you’ll save some money (22 chf off) and so will we. #win-win 😉

1. This Portes de Soleil chalet looks like it could be in a feature story of a chalet design magazine. Not pictured here – a claw foot bathtub #swoon. Sleeps 5, but we kind of want it all to ourselves…

2. “Typical authentic Swiss alpine farmers’ hamlet occupied by locals” – the description of this Grisons apartment gives us tourist chills – we love life off the beaten path!

3. This 6-person chalet in Leysin has be updated but without losing its rustic, XIX century charm…and it’s perfect for an easy weekend away from Lausanne!

4. It would be hard to find something more authentically Heidi than this old barn transformed into a small but equipped chalet. We definitely want to give this one a try!

5. So, this fully-catered chalet might be 2,500 chf a night putting it solidly outside of our budgets, but girls can dream, right?!? It sleeps twelve and the price includes meals and wine – AND that outdoor fireplace might actually make the money worth it. Ok, no. But it is still sooo pretty.

6. Finally, we love the minimalism and modern interior of this Verbier chalet.

What has your experience traveling with Airbnb been like? Any addresses that you would recommend?

Happy Ski Season!

  1. Love Airbnb! We've used it to find treasures in Paris, Barcelona and Levanto. Next, staying closer to home (I've had my eye on that Leysin one, too).

  2. We used Airbnb to find an apartment in Munich for New Year, it was great. We have 2 upcoming reservations for this summer, one week in Trieste and one week in Pula (Croatia), we'll see!
